KeySafe Help: Window Start

NOTE: This option only applies if you have set the Current Permission to Window.

A permission window specifies a time interval during which permission to open a KeySafe, for those who have one, or some other permission, for those who do not, is offered to wearers. The window is specified by first giving a "Start" date and time, and also a duration in minutes. The Start value can be entered as a complete date and time, or as a symbolic value. For example, any of the following are valid to enter as a Start value:

If a symbolic value is entered, the system will convert it to a date/time format and display it in that familiar format once the "Record Changes" button is hit.

Please note that if you are using repeating windows, then the next window begins at the time shown in the Window Start Field. The Keysafe software automatically updates this field as windows expire. Also note that you can change this field at any time and then re-set the start time for the next repeating window by pressing "Record Changes." This is a wonderful way to play with the expectations of your wearer if you want to tease/frustrate him.

By default the date and time are specified based on the time zone of the KeyHolder, NOT the wearer. However at the bottom of the Keys page next to the Refresh/Discard changes button there is an option to start Using Wearer Time Zones. If you choose this option, the screen will refresh, any un-recorded changes will be discarded and all times will now be shown in the appropriate time zone for each wearer. This is an easy way to set a specific time (such as 3 am) for each wearer, but you should be sure to make this choice before making other changes since the screen refreshes whenever you change time zones.
