KeySafe Help: Window Repeat Interval

NOTE: This option only applies if you have set the Current Permission to window AND the Repeat field is set to something other than none.

A permission window specifies a time interval during which permission to open a KeySafe, or some other permission is offered to the wearer. The window is specified by first giving a "Start" date and time, and then a "Duration" in minutes. If the window is to be repeated (by setting the Repeat field to a value other than None), the Repeat Interval specifies when each subsequent permission window will open.

The Repeat Interval is in hours and defaults to 24 hours. This field is actually quite versatile and allows the holder to do a number of interesting things to a wearer. If the holder puts a whole number (1, 4, 24, 168 (which would be 1 week), 500, etc.), then the window will repeat exactly that number of hours later. However, this field will also accept number with fractions ( such as 0.25 or 24. 99).

The Repeat Interval has two parts, a base interval and a random (+/-) component. Both fields are set in hours or fraction of hours.

To learn how to use these fields, it is easier to consider them separately. Assume that the +/- field is set to zero. Then the base interval indicates EXACTLY how far apart windows will open. A base interval of 2 means that each window will open two hours after the previous window. Putting in 2.5 would mean each window would start 2 and 1/2 hours after the last window. Please note that you can use fractions less than one. For instance, setting 0.5 would mean that each window would occur 1/2 an hour (or 30 minutes) after the last one.

Now consider the random (+/-) field. The next window will be set at the base interval plus or minus the amount in the random field. For example, if you have a base of 2 hours and a +/- of .5 (or 1/2 an hour), then the next window will open between 1 and 1/2 and 2 and 1/2 hours from the last one. Another example, a base of 2.5 and a +/- of 1.5 means that the next window will open anywhere from 1 (2.5-1.5) to 4 (2.5+1.5) hours from the last one.

A couple of examples will help show the power of these fields. For example, if you wanted a 15 minute window to open each day for a week at exactly 10pm, you would set the Window Start for 10pm, the Window Duration for 15, the number of Repeats to 6, set the Repeat Interval to 24 and the +/- to 0. You will notice that as time passes, the system will automatically update the Window Start such that it will always indicate when the next Window will be open.

If you wanted to torment your wearer, you might add some uncertainty to his chastity life in the above example by setting the Repeat Interval to 24 and a +/ - of 1. Now each window will open up anywhere from 23 hours to 25 hours after the previous window. This increases the chance a window will be missed and will definitely unnerve the wearer, especially if you do not tell him that you added some randomness. The Window Start field will be updated and will always show the holder the correct time for the next window to open.

Experience has shown that a little bit of randomness (up to .25) can go a long way. Too much randomness can frustrate all but the most dedicated wearers. Also, experience has shown that the more randomness you add, the longer the Window Duration should be to give the wearer a fair chance of finding a window.

The Repeat Interval field can be changed at any time and after "Record Changes" is pressed, will take effect AFTER the next window has opened.
